The Contemporary Performing Arts class is provided for Badin High School students who are in need of a music credit but who feel uncomfortable or unprepared for participation in Concert Band or Concert Choir.
Students in this class will learn basic skills and techniques to enable them to better experience music performance opportunities in our contemporary society such as in church, in a "garage band", or through home desktop composing or recording. They will also learn to read and understand basic music notation symbols and to understand how music is constructed, composed and distributed.
Students will also gain hands-on experience with current computer-assisted composing, sequencing, and recording tools that help to make music composition and performance accessible to everyone.
No prior music experience is required for this course.

Students in the Music Appreciation class at Badin High School will study the role of music in society and how that role has changed through time. The class focuses specifically on the music of Western Civilization in the years 1600 through today.
Students will study the lives and works of major composers and performers in each era and investigate how their music influenced, and was influenced by, the world around them. Class activities will focus on music listening and learning how better to understand the intent of each composer in their works.
